Shirley Grimes Smith

Mrs. Shirley Grimes Smith, age 71, was born in Beaufort County on January 3, 1952. She then moved to Newark, N.J. in 1972 and then to Belleville, N.J. She was the daughter of the late Leroy and Alberta Barnhill Grimes.

Shirley entered into a quiet enteral and peaceful rest on Monday, June 27, 2022, at Claire Mass Hospital in Belleville, N.J.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM Saturday, July 2, 2022, at Higher Vision Church, 315 Van Norden Street, Washington, N.C. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM at the Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington.

Shirley graduated from Washington High School in 1971 in Washington, N.C. Shirley worked as a C.N.A. and she retired from Jobhaines in Bloomfield, N.J. In her younger days, she was a member of Little Grove Holiness Church in Washington, N.C. Later, Shirley became a member of Christian Faith Center in Belleville, N.J.

Shirley leaves to cherish her memories: a loving and devoted husband of 30 years, Tommy Smith; one son, Zebedee Smith (Vannys); three grandchildren, Adriannis, Liam, Nelanny Smith all of Belleville, N.J. She also leaves one aunt, Margaret Ann Vine of Greenville, N.C.; three sisters-in-law, Debbie Nevolis of Newark, N.J., Phrosine Grimes and Roseline Grimes both of Washington, N.C.; three brothers-in-law, Steve Smith, Danny Smith, and Bobby Smith all of Newark, N.J. and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by six brothers, five sisters, and a very special niece, Shantel Gordon of Newark, N.J.
