Linda Gibbs (Griffin)

Linda J. Griffin

October 07, 1953 - September 07, 2020

Linda Joyce Gibbs Griffin was a great woman of strength, perseverance, kindness, laughter, and fun. The Lord took her home to rest on Monday, September 7, 2020. Linda Joyce was born to the late Margaret Credle Sutton and Clarence Mayhew Gibbs on October 7, 1953, in Washington, NC. She graduated from Washington High School in 1972 while completing her studies at Beaufort County Technical Institute for Practical Nursing. She married Kenneth Peter Griffin of Washington, NC, in 1973, and moved to Richmond, VA. From their union, two children were born, Aaron “AJ” Griffin and Shana “Boo” Griffin. She loved her children dearly. After moving to Richmond, she went on to receive her license in Practical Nursing from MCV. Linda was employed with MCV/VCU Hospitals (which she always called the “Miracle College”) as an LPN for 44 years until her retirement in 2018. She worked in the Security Care Unit for over 30 years, where she created countless memories and forever friendships. Linda was a great cook. She absolutely loved getting in the kitchen to cook a pot of greens or bake one of her famous chocolate or lemon cakes. She also loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, other family, and friends at lots of backyard parties, BBQs, birthdays, and holiday gatherings. Her strength and family carried her to the end. Linda was preceded in death by one sister, Naomi “Ruth” Sutton, and two brothers, Andrew Sutton and James Sutton. Left to cherish her memory are her two children, Aaron Griffin and Shana Griffin; two grandchildren, Ja’Lin “Jalie Butt” Vernon and Nevaeh “Vaeh Girl” Greene; two sisters, Blanche “Love” Gibbs and Ernestine Sutton; life-long companion, Kenneth Griffin; a very special niece and nephew, Venus “Bump” Hatchett and Kobie Hatchett; one sister-in-law, Louise Sutton; four longtime devoted friends, Virgie “Pip” Goode, Clara “Chris” Moore, Joan “JC” Cox, and James “Train” Knight; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and great co-workers.
